Why is baby massage so important?

Updated: Feb 6

Baby massage is a time-honored tradition that offers a multitude of benefits for both infants and their parents or caregivers. This ancient practice goes beyond providing comfort and relaxation; it can play an important role in promoting overall well-being and build a stronger and long-lasting connection between you and your baby. Here are just some of the benefits of baby massage that make it a valuable addition to your daily routine:

1. Soothing and Comfort: Baby massage has been shown to be effective in soothing fussy babies. Massaging your baby boosts the production of endorphins, helping to relieve discomforts such as colic, teething, congestion and growing pains, to name a few.

2. Digestive Health: Certain massage techniques, in particular to the stomach and feet, can aid in relieving gas and constipation in infants. By stimulating the digestive system, baby massage may help regulate bowel movements and reduce digestive discomfort.

3. Physical Development: The act of massaging your baby promotes healthy physical development. Regular massage can help improve circulation, enhance muscle tone, and facilitate the growth of your little one's body.

4. Improved Sleep Patterns: Many parents report that incorporating regular baby massage into their bedtime routine can help their child relax and improve their sleep quality.

This is because babies who are massaged have been found to have higher levels of melatonin in their bodies. This increased production can help your baby fall asleep more easily and get quality rest without waking in the night.

5. Emotional Well-being: Baby massage offers emotional benefits for both you and your baby. It provides a positive, nurturing experience that can reduce anxiety in parents, promoting a sense of confidence and connection with their baby.

For your baby, massaging increases levels of serotonin, the 'feel good' hormone, and helps your baby to regulate their mood and relieves stress.

6. Connection: Last, but not least, baby massage releases the love hormone 'oxytocin' in both parent and child. The skin-to-skin contact, the mutual interaction, eye contact and communication whilst performing massage on your baby will increase the feeling of attachment and build a beautiful bond that will last a lifetime.

Our six-week baby massage course will teach you how to massage your baby from top to toe. You will receive handouts so that you can continue massaging your baby at home and you can experience all of the amazing benefits mentioned above.

Not only that, by attending a baby massage class, you will benefit from meeting with other parents and caregivers who are going through the same challenges as you, who you can share experiences with, support one another and build friendships.

We can't wait to meet you!
